Father’s Day may have come and gone for another year, but there’s still plenty of reasons you might want to say thank you to your dad – help with a move or a project around the house, financial advice or babysitting, as well the general gratitude you might feel for him raising you of course!
Today we’re taking a look at a few ways you can show your gratitude to the man who’s been there since day one, in a way he won’t forget in a hurry!
Gifts
The first way we’re considering is the most direct: a present. Given that it’s your father you’re buying for you’re going to want to make sure the presents you buy are personal and appeal directly to him – this is no time for generic presents or gift cards!
Give some thought to what your dad really likes and values. If he’s proud of his Teutonically perfect facial hair, he might appreciate a luxury shaving brush set! On the other hand if he’s a keen reader, check which books by his favourite authors he doesn’t have yet, and they’re bound to be a welcome gift. You can always personalise the gift of a book by inscribing the title, add your name and the date and a short message describing why you’ve bought this one for him.
Experiences
If you don’t want to give a physical gift, then a good alternative is to buy your dad an experience of some kind. You can now purchase vouchers for race car driving days, fine dining, tours and tasting at breweries and even classes – this has an advantage over booking something for your dad directly: when you get him something he can redeem himself you don’t run the risk of booking on a bad date. If you do that it sullies the gift giving experience slightly – while he might enjoy the breadmaking class or steak dinner, it looks inconsiderate to force him to change his plans to enjoy it!
The Best Gift
Of course, the best give you can give is most likely…yourself. Choosing something you can do together, one on one with your dad is a treat for you both, and shows him how you’ve grown up. Even taking him out the pub, driving yourself and buying his drinks and dinner give him some time off from being a ‘dad’ as well as some valuable quality time with his child.
